Rumble Pak Won't Work

I got an official Nintendo rumble pak today. I put fully charged batteries, in but it didn't work. I tried different batteries, blowing in the pak and the controller and I tried a different controller, but still it did not work. Does anybody know what's wrong or is it just broken? (Btw, I don't have the instructions.)

Go into the options menu of whatever game you're playing. It's possible the Rumble Pak setting may be set to "off." It's worth a try, at least.
